A description of the clinical application of the landmark Ribbon Arch appliance by an orthodontist whose first clinical experience was with that appliance, before the Edgewise mechanism was presented to the specialty.

Dr. Dewel is Editor Emeritus of the American Journal of Orthodontics, having served as Editor-in-Chief from 1968–1978. He is a dental graduate (D.D.S.) of the University of Iowa and received his orthodontic education as a full-time instructor in the Iowa Department of Orthodontics from 1925–1929. He is a 50-year veteran of orthodontic practice and a Diplomate and Past-President of the American Board of Orthodontics
