We read this article with great interest as the topic of functional genioplasty has not been explored recently. The article challenges the stereotypical view that most orthognathic procedures should be performed after cessation of growth. Any new concept would evoke a few questions as did this article:

Some indications have been outlined previously for functional genioplasty, such as for cases of vertical excess of the anterior mandible contributing to the long face syndrome.1 Could you please outline the indications that were used to recommend functional genioplasty as a treatment for the patients in this study?

It was mentioned that wire fixation was performed in 49 patients while bone screws were placed in the remaining 5 patients. Studies have shown that the mode of fixation influences stability and remodelling2 and so we were wondering if the authors took this into consideration and how they thought it might have influenced the results?

Thank you again for publishing this interesting paper.
